As per reports, the National Building and Research Organisation (NBRO), issued early landslide warnings for several localities in five districts, to be in effect until 1500 hours on Wednesday afternoon (03 January).
Accordingly, a Level 03 (Red) alert was issued for Ududumbara Divisional Secretariat Division in Kandy District. Level 02 (Amber) warning was issued for the following areas:
• Badulla District – Lunugala and Passara Divisional Secretariat Divisions (DSD) and surrounding areas. Monaragala District – Medagama DSD and surrounding areas.
• Meanwhile, Level 01 (Yellow) alerts are in place in the following areas: Badulla District – Badulla, Ella, Saranathota, Meegahakiwula, Kandeketiya and Hali-Ela DSDs and surrounding areas, Galle District – Nagoda DSD and surrounding areas.
• Kandy District – Pasbage Korale and Pathahewaheta DSDs and surrounding areas, Matara District – Pitabeddara DSD and surrounding areas, Nuwara-Eliya District – Walapane and Hanguranketha DSDs and surrounding areas.
• Further, the Colombo – Badulla main road has been blocked after rockfalls were reported in Haldummulla area on Tuesday evening (02 January), bringing vehicular movement to a halt.
