As per reports, a landslide alert has been issued by Petrópolis Civil Defense on Monday (24 November) at 1954 hours local time ( 2254 hours UTC ) for the Alto da Independência neighborhood. The alert follows intense rainfall and a sharply elevated risk of slope failure in the area.
• A siren was activated earlier at 1942 hours local time ( 2242 hours UTC ), signaling the need for residents in designated risk areas to evacuate immediately and proceed to the official support point, which is the Independência Municipal School. Authorities emphasized that residents should not remain inside vulnerable structures during the alert period.
• At 2054 hours local time ( 2354 hours UTC ), the municipality entered the operational alert stage due to continued heavy rain. Civil Defense continues real time monitoring of rainfall accumulation, soil saturation, and landslide indicators, and additional alerts may be issued as conditions evolve.
