As per reports, Indonesia has mobilised nearly 17,000 personnel to fight forest and land fires (karhutla) in Central Kalimantan and South Sumatra, with thick haze threatening public health and poor visibility hampering aerial firefighting. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said 4,686 personnel were deployed in Central Kalimantan and 12,285 in South Sumatra. Ground operations are being prioritised because low visibility has restricted water-bombing helicopters. In South Sumatra, the government was set to trial dispersing 1.5 tonnes of dry ice over Palembang on Thursday (15 October) to improve visibility from around 1,000 meter to 5,000 meter.
