Indefinite public transport strike scheduled to commence in Tumaco on Tuesday (04 August)

As per reports, public transport operating companies in the District of Tumaco have announced an indefinite suspension of services across the municipality starting on Tuesday (04 August).

• The strike action is scheduled to commence at 0000 hours local time (0500 hours UTC) on Tuesday (04 August) and remain in effect indefinitely until local and national authorities address transport sector grievances.
• The public transport union issued an official statement citing administrative delays in the issuance of vehicular operation cards and the non-application of legal extensions regarding vehicle operational lifespans.
• Transport leaders highlighted an unmitigated rise in informal and illegal transport services operating without regulatory controls, which they claim directly undermines licensed operators.
• Transport operators called upon the Tumaco District Administration, the Secretariat of Mobility, and national authorities to establish an emergency working table to reach binding agreements.
