The Department of Meteorology has issued an inclement weather warning for parts of Sri Lanka on Monday (24 August).
• Rainfall is expected across the Western and Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces as well as Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts, with several spells of rainfall likely in the North-Western Province.
• Rainfall and thundershowers may occur in Ampara, Monaragala and Batticaloa districts after 1400 hours (local time).
• Strong winds of 30–40 kilometres per hour (kmph) are also expected at times over the western slopes of the Central Hills, North-Central hills, and North-Western province, as well as Mannar, Trincomalee, Hambantota and Matale districts.
