Inclement weather conditions forecast across parts of Sri Lanka on Thursday (06 August)

The Department of Meteorology of Sri Lanka issued a weather forecast for Thursday (06 August).

As per the weather forecast issued at 0530 hours (local time) on Thursday (06 August), the following details are available:

• Due to the active southwest monsoon, rainy and windy conditions over southwestern parts of the island are expected to intensify from Thursday (06 August) and continue for the next few days.
• Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces, and in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts. Cloudy skies will prevail over these areas.
• Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 millimetres is likely at some places in Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces, and in Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Galle districts.
• Showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places in Ampara, Batticaloa and Monaragala districts after 1400 hours (local time).
• Strong winds of approximately 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are expected at times over North-Central, Sabaragamuwa, Southern, Central and North-Western provinces.
