IMD issues yellow alert for thunderstorms across Andhra Pradesh from Monday to Tuesday (15-16 September)

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued yellow alerts for thunderstorm, lightning, squall and strong surface winds across Andhra Pradesh from Monday to Tuesday (15-16 September).

• On Sunday (14 September), floodwaters and streams overflowing on the roads had cut off the communication network in the Tallapalem and Kansalapalem areas of East Godavari district, while several villages were told to move to safe areas in West Godavari district.
• The East Godavari district stated that floodwaters are continuing to flow on the roads due to the rising of the Erra Kaluva and related traffic diversions have been made.
• On Sunday (14 September), in Eluru district, the collector K Vetri Selvi sounded an alert to the people in the low lying villages as the water from Pedavagu reservoir was being released.
• Meanwhile, Guntur received 8.4 centimetres of rainfall resulting in waterlogging in low lying areas such as Srinagar, Bongaralebeedu, Bradipet and Arandalpet.
