As per reports on Wednesday (03 September), the Tamil Nadu Health Department has issued an advisory amid a rising trend of viral fever across both urban and rural areas of the state. While officials note that the situation remains under control, preventive measures are strongly recommended:

• Citizens should wear face masks in crowded spaces such as markets, public transport, and places of worship.
• Senior citizens, children, and individuals with chronic illnesses or weakened immunity are advised to avoid mass gatherings like weddings and cultural events.
• Common preventive steps include frequent handwashing, drinking clean water, and avoiding self-medication.
• Health facilities including primary healthcare centers and government hospitals—have been instructed to stay on high alert and maintain adequate medicine supplies.
• Government hospitals in Chennai are reporting over 500 outpatient visits per day for influenza-like illnesses—fever, fatigue, dry cough, and sore throat. The authorities have informed that this surge is consistent with seasonal influenza, not a new pathogen.
