According to reports, haze conditions have led to a deterioration in air quality across Singapore, with the 24-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) in the central region entering the unhealthy range on Saturday (03 October). At 1100 hours (local time), the central region recorded a PSI of 102, rising to 105 by 1300 hours, while other regions remained in the moderate range.
The National Environment Agency (NEA) attributed the deterioration to moderate-to-dense smoke plumes from southern Sumatra and haze from fires in Kalimantan being transported towards Singapore by prevailing winds. NEA has forecast the 24-hour PSI to remain in the high-moderate to low-unhealthy range, with a continued risk of haze affecting the city-state.
