As per reports, a G1 (minor) to G2 (moderate) geomagnetic storm is forecast to affect Russia on Friday (09 October) through Sunday (11 October) following the expected arrival of a coronal mass ejection (CME) associated with an M1.4 solar flare from Active Region 4549 on Tuesday (06 October).
• Reportedly, geomagnetic activity is forecast to begin at approximately 1500 hours local time (1200 hours UTC) on Friday (09 October), with the Planetary K-index (Kp index) expected to exceed 04 for approximately three hours before the storm intensifies.
• Reports indicate that the storm may reach G2 (moderate) level, corresponding to a Kp index of 06, with elevated geomagnetic activity expected to continue until around 0600 hours local time (0300 hours UTC) on Saturday (10 October).
• Reportedly, a further G1 geomagnetic-storm interval is forecast for Sunday (11 October) from 0600 hours local time (0300 hours UTC) to 0900 hours local time (0600 hours UTC).
• According to reports, the exact timing, intensity and duration of the geomagnetic storm remain subject to change.
• The geomagnetic-storm effects are most relevant to high-latitude Russian locations above approximately 60 degrees north, particularly Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Vorkuta, Novy Urengoy, Salekhard, Yakutsk, Tiksi and Anadyr.
