As per reports, firefighting operations are ongoing to contain forest and land fires (karhutla) in Rantau Bayur District, Banyuasin Regency, and Pangkalan Lampam District, Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI) Regency in South Sumatra Province, on Wednesday (29 July).

The following are the latest updates:

• The South Sumatra Regional Disaster Management Agency (Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah – BPBD Sumatera Selatan) reported that the fire in Rantau Bayur District has spread across approximately eight hectares.
• Four water-bombing helicopters have been deployed to support aerial firefighting operations in Banyuasin Regency.
• As of Tuesday (28 July), aerial operations had completed six flight sorties and 206 water-bombing drops; however, smoke continued to be observed from the affected area.
• Firefighting operations are also underway in Pangkalan Lampam District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, where a separate fire has affected approximately 0.5 hectares. A helicopter has conducted 46 water-bombing drops in the area.
