As per reports, a major forest fire broke out in the Aude department in southern France on Saturday (26 July), impacting over 680 hectares.
• Several hundred individuals, including residents of two campsites and nearby residential structures in the Port-La-Nouvelle commune, were evacuated as a precaution.
• The commune experienced a complete power outage during firefighting efforts. In the neighbouring Sigean commune, two houses sustained severe fire damage, with one almost entirely destroyed.
• By Sunday morning (27 July), authorities allowed evacuees to return to their homes, though firefighting operations continued.
• A total of 630 firefighters, two aircraft, and two helicopters have been deployed, but efforts have been hindered by strong winds.
