As per reports, a fatal road traffic collision involving a Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) bus and a black Audi Q5 occurred at approximately 0030 hours local time (0430 hours UTC) on Saturday (27 June) at the intersection of Sunbury Road and Mock Road on the east side of Columbus, Ohio.
• According to the Columbus Police Division, the COTA bus was travelling eastbound on Mock Road and was making a left turn onto northbound Sunbury Road after receiving a green traffic signal.
• At the same time, the Audi Q5 was travelling southbound on Sunbury Road and entered the intersection, where it collided with the turning bus. The impact resulted in the deaths of both occupants of the Audi, including the driver and the front-seat passenger, who were pronounced dead at the scene.
• The driver of the COTA bus sustained injuries and was transported to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center for medical treatment. One passenger was on board the bus at the time of the collision and received medical assessment and treatment at the scene. No additional serious injuries among bus occupants have been reported.
• Authorities stated that the cause of the crash remains under investigation, and no further information regarding contributing factors has been released.
