As per reports, Bangladesh Police on Wednesday (20 May) issued nationwide travel safety and security guidelines ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, urging passengers to remain alert against stone-throwing incidents during train travel, fraud gangs, and transport-related safety risks.
The details are as follows:
• Authorities advised train passengers to remain vigilant against stone-throwing incidents and to secure personal belongings during rail journeys. Travelling without valid train tickets was also discouraged.
• Citizens were advised to complete Eid travel with sufficient time before and after the festival to avoid overcrowding at railway stations, bus terminals, launch terminals and ferry ghats.
• Police warned against travelling on rooftops of buses, trains, launches, steamers, trucks, pickups and other goods-carrying vehicles due to serious safety risks.
• Passengers were advised not to pressure drivers to overspeed and to ensure compliance with traffic regulations, including avoiding dangerous overtaking practices.
• Authorities cautioned against allowing inexperienced, fatigued or physically unwell drivers to operate vehicles during the Eid travel period.
• Police advised against the use of unsafe vehicles such as Nasimon, Karimon and Bhotbhoti on highways and warned against operating unfit or expired vehicles.
• For water transport, authorities advised avoiding travel during unsafe weather conditions and instructed boat operators to maintain life-saving equipment including life jackets and rescue buoys onboard vessels.
• Passengers were warned to remain alert against fraud and criminal gangs, including “unconscious gangs” and “ointment gangs”, and advised not to accept food or drinks from strangers during travel.
• Police advised that livestock transportation vehicles should not be overloaded and that cattle markets should not be established on highways or adjacent to railway tracks.
• Authorities encouraged the use of banking channels for high-value cattle market transactions and cautioned citizens against counterfeit currency and sharing mobile financial service PIN numbers.
• Emergency support and assistance contact numbers were issued for Bangladesh Police, Highway Police, Railway Police, Naval Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the national emergency service 999.
