As per reports, several hundred teachers of the Ebtedayee madrasa gathered at the Jatiya Press Club on Sunday (26 January) to hold a rally towards the Chief Advisor’s Office, and began the same at around 1230 hours under the banner “Bangladesh Swatantra Ebtedayee Madrasa Shikkhak Oikyojote”. Upon reaching the Shahbagh area, they broke a police barricade which resulted in the interference of security personnel.

The police dispersed the crowd with water cannons and baton-charging, resulting in clashes and several protestors left injured. At least five had been admitted to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. Reports suggest they have now gathered in front of the Fine Arts Faculty of Dhaka University.
