According to reports, an earthquake occurred three times in a row in the Sumedang Regency area on Sunday evening (31 December) with varying magnitudes; first with a magnitude of 4.1, the second with a magnitude of 3.4 and the last with a magnitude of 4.8.
• From data collected by the Sumedang Regency Government, the earthquake resulted in 100 houses being heavily damaged, 138 houses being lightly damaged and three residents injured. Additionally, other infrastructural damages were also reported as a total of 248 patients at Sumedang District Hospital, West Java were being treated in emergency tents as a number of hospital rooms were also damaged by the earthquake.
• An earthquake measuring a magnitude of 4.5 on the Richter scale also impacted Sumedang and its surroundings on Monday evening (01 January) at 2046 hours local time. The source was close to that of the series of previous earthquakes that have occurred since Sunday (31 December).
• Additionally, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) on Monday (01 January) recorded two aftershocks.
