According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), an earthquake of magnitude 5.3 occurred at 1000 WIB on Sunday (12 October) in Sarmi Regency, Papua.

It occurred at a depth of about 10 kilometers and authorities stated that it did not pose a tsunami risk.
