According to reports, head of the National Agency for Disaster Countermeasure (BNPB) Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center Abdul Muhari stated that 70 percent of regencies/cities in East Java and Central Java have declared an emergency drought alert status, including Yogyakarta.

• The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Ngawi Regency, East Java has mapped 23 villages in eight sub-districts in the local area that are potentially experiencing a clean water crisis or drought during the dry season.
• The 23 villages are located in eight sub-districts, namely Mantingan, Karanganyar, Widodaren, Kedunggalar, Pitu, Bringin, Kasreman, and Ngawi. In addition to assistance in distributing clean water, handling drought in Ngawi also involves the creation of a drinking water management system (SPAM) network and a community-based drinking water and sanitation provision program (PAMSIMAS) in villages that are vulnerable to clean water.
• Drought disaster due to the prolonged dry season in several areas in Gunungkidul Regency, Yogyakarta has affected residents in seven sub-districts as they continue to ask for clean water assistance from the Gunungkidul Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD).
• The drought disaster affected Panggang, Rongkop, Saptsosari, Girisubo, Tepus, Nglipar and Karangmojo Sub-districts. Most of the residents do not receive water from the regional drinking water company (PDAM). In dealing with the drought disaster, BPBD has prepared 1,000 tanks which are estimated to be usable until October 2024. However, due to increasing demand, almost 50 percent of clean water assistance has been distributed.
• Disasters in Indonesia were statistically dominated by forest and land fires (karhutla) and droughts since last week. BNPB noted that out of 34 disasters, there have been 29 karhutla incidents in the past week.
• Areas of Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan were very vulnerable to karhutla. Meanwhile, the areas of Java, Bali and Nusa Tenggara experienced long ‘rainless days’ of up to 40-50 days.
