Drone operations banned in restricted areas of Bangkok on Friday (16 October) for IMF–World Bank Annual Meetings

Risk level: Low Country: Thailand

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) has announced a 24-hour ban on unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations, including recreational and commercial drone flights, within the restricted area designated as VT R 1 Bangkok City on Friday (16 October).

• CAAT has temporarily suspended general drone flight permissions within the designated restricted area for the specified period. During this time, individuals and organisations are prohibited from operating or launching drones within the area.
• However, drone operations specifically required for the meetings may be permitted subject to prior authorisation from the Director of CAAT. Applicants must submit a request through the UAS Portal application and may conduct flights only after receiving approval.
• Before each authorised flight, operators must submit details of the flight area, date, time and purpose through the UAS Portal and coordinate with the Bangkok Metropolitan Police Command’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Control and Countermeasures Center via email at antidrone.police@gmail.com. All conditions stipulated by the relevant authorities must be followed.
• CAAT has urged drone owners, operators and members of the public to verify the designated restricted area and applicable timings before conducting any flight. Violations may attract imprisonment for up to one year, a fine of up to THB 40,000, or both, under Section 78(1) of the Air Navigation Act B.E. 2497, as amended.
