As per reports, Dar es Salaam regional authorities announced plans on Friday (31 July) to launch a special operation to reduce traffic congestion along key cargo routes serving Dar es Salaam Port.

• The operation may target congestion at the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) weighbridge and roadside truck parking areas, which have been identified as key bottlenecks causing delays in cargo clearance and freight movement.
• Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila stated that the intervention may improve freight movement, reduce cargo transport delays, enhance road safety, and improve the efficiency of the logistics chain linked to Dar es Salaam Port.
• Dar es Salaam Port Director Abed G. Abed proposed introducing an Integrated Weighbridge system linking the TANROADS weighbridge with the port’s systems.
• The proposed system may enable trucks to undergo a single weighing procedure instead of multiple inspections, which may reduce congestion, improve service delivery, and facilitate timely cargo deliveries.
