The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the following Forecast and Nowcast warnings for West Bengal on Tuesday (22 September), as per the District-wise forecast PDF documents issued Monday (21 September).
• Forecast: An orange alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, heavy rainfall of seven to 11 centimetres and gusty winds reaching 40 to 50 kilometres per hour has been issued for South 24 Parganas and Purba Medinipur.
• Forecast: A yellow alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, heavy rainfall of seven to 11 centimetres and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kilometres per hour has been issued for Paschim Medinipur, while a yellow alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kilometres per hour has been issued for Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, Jhargram, Purulia, Bankura, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur and Malda.
• Forecast: No warning has been issued for Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, Kalimpong, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar.
• Nowcast: A yellow alert for light to moderate rainfall ranging between five and 15 millimetres per hour, light thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speeds below 40 kilometres per hour and low cloud-to-ground lightning with a probability of less than 30 per cent has been issued for Purulia, Bankura, Jhargram, Paschim Medinipur, Purba Medinipur, Hooghly, Howrah, Kolkata and South 24 Parganas. The alert is valid until 0300 hours (local time) on Tuesday (22 September).
