Daily weather update for West Bengal on Thursday (17 September)

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the following Forecast and Nowcast warnings for West Bengal on Thursday (17 September), as per the District-wise forecast PDF documents issued on Wednesday (16 September).

• Forecast: An orange alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kilometres per hour at one or two places has been issued for Howrah, Hooghly, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Purulia and Bankura.
• Forecast: A yellow alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kilometres per hour and heavy rainfall measuring seven to 11 centimetres at one or two places has been issued for Jalpaiguri and Alipurduar, while a yellow alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30 to 40 kilometres per hour at one or two places has been issued for Kolkata, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad, Nadia, Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Cooch Behar, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur and Malda.
• Nowcast: A yellow alert for light rainfall measuring less than five millimetres per hour and light thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speeds below 40 kilometres per hour has been issued across all districts of West Bengal. The alert is valid until 0300 hours (local time) on Thursday (17 September).
