The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the following Forecast and Nowcast warnings for West Bengal on Sunday (06 September), as per the District-wise forecast PDF documents issued on Saturday (05 September).
• Forecast: A yellow alert for heavy rainfall measuring seven to 11 centimetres accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour at one or two places has been issued for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar and Cooch Behar.
• Forecast: A yellow alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour at one or two places has been issued for Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Malda, Kolkata, Howrah, Hooghly, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas, Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, Purulia and Bankura.
• Forecast: No colour-coded warning has been issued for Jhargram, Purba Bardhaman, Paschim Bardhaman, Birbhum, Murshidabad and Nadia.
• Nowcast: An orange alert for moderate rainfall measuring five to 15 millimetres per hour, moderate thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speeds ranging from 41 to 61 kilometres per hour in gusts, moderate cloud-to-ground lightning with a probability of 30 to 60 per cent, and heavy rainfall measuring more than 15 millimetres per hour has been issued for Malda, Murshidabad and Birbhum, valid until 0300 hours (local time) on Sunday (06 September).
• Nowcast: A yellow alert for light to moderate rainfall ranging between five and 15 millimetres per hour, light thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speeds below 40 kilometres per hour and low cloud-to-ground lightning with a probability of less than 30 per cent has been issued for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, Cooch Behar, Uttar Dinajpur, Dakshin Dinajpur, Paschim Bardhaman and Nadia, valid until 0300 hours (local time) on Sunday (06 September).
