The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the following Forecast and Nowcast warnings for Tamil Nadu on Tuesday (22 September).
• Forecast: A yellow alert for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squalls has been issued across all districts of Tamil Nadu.
• Nowcast: A yellow alert for moderate rainfall ranging between five and 15 millimetres per hour and light thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speeds below 40 kilometres per hour has been issued for Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Erode, The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Namakkal, Karur, Tiruchirappalli (Trichy), Perambalur, Ariyalur, Kallakurichi, Viluppuram, Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Dindigul, Theni, Madurai, Tenkasi and Kanniyakumari. The alert is valid until 0400 hours (local time) on Tuesday (22 September).
