The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the following Forecast and Nowcast warnings for Tamil Nadu on Thursday (01 October), as per the latest updates issued on Wednesday (30 September).
• Forecast: A yellow alert for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and squalls has been issued across all districts of Tamil Nadu.
• Nowcast: An orange alert for moderate rainfall ranging between five and 15 millimetres per hour and light thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speeds below 40 kilometres per hour has been issued for Madurai, Salem, Erode, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Namakkal, Perambalur, Cuddalore, Krishnagiri and Kanchipuram. The alert is valid until 0400 hours (local time) on Thursday (01 October).
• Nowcast: A yellow alert for moderate rainfall ranging between five and 15 millimetres per hour and light thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speeds below 40 kilometres per hour has been issued for Nilgiris, Dindigul, Dharmapuri, Karur, Kallakurichi, Viluppuram and Tiruvannamalai. The alert is valid until 0400 hours (local time) on Thursday (01 October).
