The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued the following Forecast and Nowcast warnings for Gujarat on Friday (31 July) as per the District-wise forecast PDF document issued at 1200 hours (local time) on Thursday (30 July).
• Forecast: A red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Tapi, Bhavnagar, Botad, Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
• Forecast: An orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Gandhinagar, Kheda, Panchmahal, Dahod, Surendranagar, Rajkot and Amreli.
• Forecast: A yellow alert for heavy rainfall has been issued for Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Junagadh, Morbi, Devbhumi Dwarka, Gir Somnath, Diu and Kachchh.
• Nowcast: An orange alert for moderate rainfall measuring five to 15 millimetres per hour, moderate thunderstorms with maximum surface wind speeds ranging from 41 to 61 kilometres per hour in gusts and moderate cloud-to-ground lightning with a probability of 30 to 60 per cent has been issued for Banaskantha, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad, Surendranagar, Aravalli, Mahisagar, Panchmahal, Dahod, Chhota Udepur, Vadodara, Anand, Kheda, Botad, Bhavnagar, Narmada, Tapi, Bharuch, Surat, Navsari, Valsad, Dang, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman. The alert is valid until 0400 hours (local time) on Friday (31 July).
• Nowcast: A yellow alert for light rainfall measuring less than five millimetres per hour has been issued for Kachchh, Patan, Morbi, Jamnagar, Devbhumi Dwarka, Rajkot, Porbandar, Amreli, Junagadh and Gir Somnath. The alert is valid until 0400 hours (local time) on Friday (31 July).
• Weather disruptions: All government, grant-in-aid and self-financed schools and colleges across Ahmedabad city and district, along with Ahmedabad municipal schools, will remain closed on Friday (31 July), while Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation-run anganwadis will remain closed until Monday (03 August). The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has also advised residents to work from home on Friday (31 July) and Saturday (01 August), identified 147 waterlogging-prone locations and activated drainage pumping facilities. Ahmedabad Rural Police has advised motorists to avoid unnecessary travel on the Sanathal-Bavla Highway and not cross waterlogged stretches, although no road closure has been announced.
