As per reports, following are the latest updates on the political unrest in South Korea, as of Tuesday (01 April):
• The Constitutional Court stated on Tuesday (01 April) that it would deliver its judgment on President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment at 1100 hours on Friday (04 April). Yoon’s impeachment verdict will be broadcast live.
• The court will decide whether to uphold the National Assembly’s impeachment of him or dismiss it. A verdict to permanently remove Yoon from office requires at least six votes in favor from the court’s eight justices. In that case, the country will hold a presidential election on 03 June. If Yoon’s impeachment is rejected, he will be reinstated as president.
• The police have increased security measures around the courthouse to guard against violence.
