As per reports, transport unions Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Opereytor Nationwide (Piston) and Samahang Manibela Mananakay at Nagkaisang Terminal ng Transportasyon (Manibela) held a nationwide strike from Wednesday (17 September) to protest alleged corruption in the government’s use of fuel excise taxes.
• There are no further updates on the strike; however, the Piston union members have also announced to commence a strike from Thursday (18 September). This will be followed by a protest at Rizal Park in Manila on Sunday (21 September), coinciding with nationwide anti-corruption protests.
• Manibela announced that its members will stage protests from Wednesday to Friday (17-19 September). The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has assured the public that the strike will not paralyze public transportation. The LTFRB, in coordination with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and local governments will arrange extra transportation during the strike.
