Clinical lecturers in Ogbomoso, Nigeria, begin indefinite strike starting Wednesday (12 February)

Risk level: Low Country: Nigeria

As per reports, Clinical lecturers at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, have commenced an indefinite strike on Wednesday (12 February) due to the non-payment of their salaries under the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS), following the expiration of a 21-day ultimatum issued by the Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria (MDCAN), South-West Zone.

• The lecturers described the salary shortfall as unfair and discriminatory, highlighting that universities in the South-West have not implemented CONMESS, which they argue has contributed to brain drain and setbacks in medical education within the region.
• The lecturers have urged relevant stakeholders to intervene, warning that failure to resolve the issue could further destabilize the medical education system in Nigeria.
