Climate activist protest reported in London on Tuesday (29 October)

As per reports, Extinction Rebellion (XR) activists executed a coordinated series of protests in London’s financial hub as part of their ‘Insure Our Survival’ campaign on Tuesday (29 October).

• Key insurance offices, such as WTW and SwissRe, were targeted with chalk-spray, fly-posters, and in-person demonstrations, spotlighting the insurers’ role in underwriting fossil fuel projects.
• Activists occupied the Gherkin building, displaying banners against projects like the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), described as a ‘carbon bomb.’
• The protests included a blockade outside SwissRe’s headquarters and marches through the City of London, demanding an end to insurance backing of fossil fuel industries. Extinction Rebellion’s video van labelled CEOs as ‘climate criminals,’ while creative demonstrations symbolized impending climate crises such as food shortages and extreme weather impacts.
