Clashes reported in Tugunan, BARMM on Saturday (19 September)

As per reports, Joint forces of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Philippine National Police (PNP) conducted a law enforcement operation in Tugunan town, Special Geographic Area of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) on Saturday (19 September) to serve a warrant of arrest against an individual wanted in connection with a carnapping with homicide case.

• According to the Army’s 06th Infantry Division (6ID), government forces were approaching the location of the warrant subject when the suspect and his companions allegedly opened fire, triggering an exchange of gunfire.
• The clash resulted in six armed individuals being killed, according to authorities. Their identities have not yet been released, and it remains unclear whether the individual named in the arrest warrant was among those killed.
• Security forces recovered five high-powered firearms, including four M16 rifles and one Garand rifle, from the area.
• Approximately 350 residents temporarily evacuated their communities following the incident and are currently staying at two evacuation centres.
• Local authorities and concerned government agencies are coordinating assistance for displaced residents, while security forces continue operations to maintain security and order in the area.
