As per reports, clashes were witnessed in Beldanga town’s Shaktipur area in Murshidabad district, West Bengal during a Ram Navami procession on Wednesday (17 April).

• Eighteen people, including two minors and several police personnel, were reportedly injured and a number of shops were damaged due to the incident.
• Reports indicate that a few participants in the Ram Navami procession brandished swords and hurled mud pellets at the mosque in Saktipur, Beldanga – II Block, Murshidabad, which led to the clashes.
• It was further reported that the police had to resort to lathi charge and fired tear gas shells to disperse the mob. Locals reportedly claimed that 20 people had been detained for questioning.
• Protests allegedly staged by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers were also reported at the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital, where the injured people were admitted.
