As per reports, a clash broke out between two groups during a press conference at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) auditorium on Monday (19 May). Following are the details:
• The clashes occurred between two different exporter groups under the Bangladesh Labour Exporters’ Organization (BAIRA).
• A press conference was scheduled for 1130 hours, however several BAIRA members alleged they were denied entry, leading to a scuffle between groups.
• Multiple clashes took place, leaving at least five people injured. The Sagar Rumi auditorium was also vandalised in the clash, leading to the cancellation of the press conference and the deployment of several police teams by 1230 hours.
• At present, senior officers of the Shahbagh Police Station are on site and attempting to mediate between parties involved in the clashes.
