According to reports, six individuals were arrested in Melbourne’s Central Business District (CBD) following clashes between pro-Palestinian and pro-Israeli rallies on Sunday (19 May). Approximately 7,000 people attended the separate ‘Nakba Sunday Rally’ and the ‘Never Again is Now Rally.’
• Protesters from the Nakba Sunday Rally merged onto Spring St, near Parliament House, where the Never Again is Now Rally was scheduled to begin.
• Victoria Police formed a line between the opposing groups to ensure safety and prevent violence.
• Despite organisers confirming separate locations, some protesters moved to Spring Street for counter-protests.
• The six individuals arrested were released pending summons. Charges include bill posting, hindering, stating a false name, assaulting police, and possessing a drug of dependence.
