Clash incident reported in Ukhrul district on Monday (09 February)

As per reports, officials stated that fresh violence broke out in Ukhrul district in the afternoon hours on Monday (09 February), after armed miscreants allegedly set fire to more houses in Litan Sareikhong village. In addition, the armed groups also reportedly fired several rounds in the air in the vicinity of the hill village, prompting affected residents to flee to safer areas in the neighboring Kangpokpi district.

In response, State Minister Govindas Konthoujam stated that the situation on the ground remained tense. As of 0500 hours (local time) on Monday (09 February), approximately 17 houses had reportedly been burned, while subsequent reports indicated that the total number of affected houses had risen to 21.

• Due to the reports of continued violence, additional security forces have been deployed, while a team led by Deputy Chief Minister (CM) L Dikho, Tangkhul Naga civil bodies, and Kuki MLA held a meeting at Litan.
• The meeting was reportedly attended by the representatives of the Tangkhul Naga Long, Tangkhul Shanao Long, along with Assam Rifles officers, Ukhrul MLA, state government officials, and representatives from the Kuki community. The Deputy CM also inspected areas affected by the clash between the Tangkhul and Kuki communities and held meetings with Naga and Kuki village heads.
• Meanwhile, additional central forces have also been deployed at Mahadev, Lambui, Shangkai, and other vulnerable areas leading to Litan village, to prevent further escalation and to maintain law and order.
