As per reports, the ongoing strike at Chittagong Port was suspended following discussions between port authorities and labor representatives on Sunday (08 February). The announcement was made through a joint statement issued by leaders of the Chittagong Port Protection Movement Council, confirming that the strike programme scheduled from 0800 hours (local time) on Monday (09 February) has been postponed until Sunday (15 February).
The decision followed assurances from Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, Advisor on NCT at Chittagong Port, and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority Chairman Ashiq Chowdhury that the New Mooring Terminal agreement will not be signed during the tenure of the current government. The postponement was cited as being in consideration of the upcoming national parliamentary elections and the continued unloading of Ramadan-related goods.
