Bushfire warning issued in Perth’s southern suburbs on Thursday (03 April)

According to reports, a bushfire warning has been issued for residents in Perth’s southern suburbs on Thursday (03 April), as firefighters are trying to contain the blaze near Canning River.

A watch and act warning is in place for residents living near the area bounded by Canning River, Ferndale Crescent, Wilcock Street, Latham Road, Metcalfe Road and Nicholson Road.

• While homes are no longer in immediate danger, residents have been warned that it is unsafe to return due to hazards from fallen trees and downed powerlines.
• Authorities have reported that the fire is moving towards north-westerly direction along the river. Multiple water bombers are actively working to bring the blaze under control.
• Since the fire was first reported at around 0400 hours on Thursday (03 April), approximately 100 people have evacuated their homes for safety.
• Due to the fire emergency following roads have been closed: Nicholson Road between Albany Highway and Metcalfe Road, Bridgeway Avenue, Willcox Street and Spencer Road between Nicholson Road and Ruby Avenue.
