As per reports, the Bulgarian Road Infrastructure Agency (RIA) has announced temporary traffic restrictions for heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) exceeding 12 tonnes on Friday (24 July), and Sunday (26 July), to facilitate increased holiday traffic and enhance road safety during peak travel periods.

• The restrictions are scheduled to apply in both directions on the Trakia Motorway (A1), the Struma Motorway (A3), and Road I-1 through the Kresna Gorge, additionally on the section between the Simitli checkpoint (kilometre 376) and the Kulata Border Crossing Point.
• On Friday (24 July), HGV movements exceeding 12 tonnes will be restricted from 1600 hours local time (1300 hours UTC) to 2300 hours local time (2000 hours UTC).
• On Sunday (26 July), the restriction are scheduled to apply from 1530 hours local time (1230 hours UTC) to 2200 hours local time (1900 hours UTC).
• The temporary traffic measures are intended to reduce the risk of road traffic accidents caused by unsafe overtaking and the formation of slow-moving heavy vehicle convoys during periods of increased travel demand, particularly as travellers head towards the Black Sea coast.
• Heavy goods vehicles travelling to and from Burgas have been advised to use Road I-6 (Sub-Balkan Road) as an alternative route.
• Heavy goods vehicles travelling to and from the Kulata Border Crossing Point have been advised to use the designated diversion via Road II-19 (Simitli–Gotse Delchev), Road III-198 (Gotse Delchev–Kulata), and Road III-1981 through Chuchuligovo before reconnecting with Road I-1 near Kulata.
• To facilitate traffic flow, authorities are expected to implement reversible traffic management on Road I-1 in the Simitli area. On Friday (24 July), traffic towards Kulata will operate in two lanes, while traffic towards Sofia will operate in one lane. On Sunday (26 July), the arrangement will be reversed, with two lanes allocated towards Sofia and one lane towards Kulata.
• The RIA has also advised motorists that a real-time traffic monitoring map is available through the Bulgarian Road Administration and National Toll Administration, providing live information on traffic volumes across the national road network.
