As per the Manipur Police, an Assam Rifles soldier allegedly shot at his six colleagues on Wednesday (24 January) morning before shooting himself dead at his battalion in south Manipur close to the Indo-Myanmar border. The six soldiers who sustained bullet injuries were taken to a hospital in Churachandpur.

Assam Rifles in its statement mentioned that there was no relation whatsoever of this particular incident to the ongoing conflict in the state.
