According to reports, the Assam government has announced the extension of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 in Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Charaideo, and Sivasagar districts for six more months, with effect from Monday (01 April) till 30 September.

The decision to extend the imposition of disturbed areas under AFSPA beyond 31 March 2024, comes after the submission of a report by the Assam Police Headquarters to the government.
