As per the United States Geological Survey (USGS), a 5.4 magnitude earthquake was reported approximately 90 kilometers east-southeast of Kimbe in Papua New Guinea, at 0041 hours (local time) on Wednesday (01 July).

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 35 kilometers.
