As per the United States Geological Survey (USGS), an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 was recorded at 1245 hours (local time) on Monday (30 March), approximately 59 kilometres south-southeast of Hihifo, Tonga.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 40 kilometres.
