As per reports, a 5.0 magnitude earthquake which occurred 35 kilometres southeast of Crucecita, Oaxaca, around 0840 hours local time on Thursday (18 January), prompted seismic alarms in Mexico City.

While some mobile applications sent out emergency alerts to users in Mexico City, the magnitude did not merit activating the local government’s seismic alerts.
