As per reports, a 48-hour strike is scheduled at the ports of Naples, Salerno and Castellammare di Stabia on Friday (11 September) and Saturday (12 September), following a dispute over funding for port workers in Salerno.
• The industrial action has been called by the regional branches of Italian General Confederation of Labour (CGIL), Italian Confederation of Workers’ Trade Unions (CISL) and Italian Labour Union (UIL) Trasporti.
• The strike is expected to involve employees of port companies, terminal operators, the Central Tyrrhenian Sea Port System Authority and maritime terminals, with operations at the three ports expected to be halted during the industrial action.
• The dispute concerns the Port System Authority’s decision not to allocate contributions for 2025 and 2026 to the Flavio Gioia Port Company in Salerno under provisions originating from the 2020 Relaunch Decree.
• Unions argue that the funding is required to compensate for a reduction in work shifts compared with 2019 levels, while the Port System Authority has cited structural changes in labour demand and the need to reassess the allocation of public resources.
