The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has reported the occurrence of a 4.2 magnitude earthquake near the coast of Iwate Prefecture, Japan on Monday (26 January).
The earthquake was observed at 0920 hours (local time) and recorded at a depth of approximately 50 kilometres (km). The affected regions include:
• Iwate Prefecture — Kuji City, Yamada Town, Iwaizumi Town, Tanohata Village, Fudai Village, Noda Village, Hirono Town, Kamaishi City, Sumita Town, Morioka City, Hachimantai City, Kuzumaki Town, Iwate Town, Karumai Town, Hanamaki City, Tono City, and Ichinoseki City (at a seismic intensity level of 1).
• Aomori Prefecture — Hachinohe City, Oirase Town, Gonohe Town, Nanbu Town, Hashikami Town (at a seismic intensity level of 1).
• Iwate Prefecture — Miyako City, Otsuchi Town (at a seismic intensity level of 2).
