As per reports, seafarers’ unions have announced a 24-hour strike at Rafina Port on Friday (03 July), with a protest gathering scheduled at 1000 hours local time (0700 hours UTC) outside the Super Ferry passenger terminal.
• Reports indicate that members of the Panhellenic Union of Engine Room Personnel (PEMEN) and the Panhellenic Union of Lower Engine Room Crew (STEFENSON) is expected to participate in the strike.
• Organizers stated that the industrial action aims to protest inadequate port infrastructure, staffing shortages, excessive workload, and concerns over crew welfare and maritime safety.
• The unions have demanded increased crew staffing, improved port infrastructure, and the immediate deployment of an auxiliary tugboat at Rafina Port to enhance the safe movement of vessels.
• The Association of Ferry Companies has reportedly challenged the legality of the strike in court; however, the industrial action is expected to proceed unless otherwise ruled.
