NEBE launches nationwide voter registration for Ethiopia’s 7th General Election until 04 April

As per the reports, the National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) has officially launched nationwide voter registration for Ethiopia’s 7th General Election on Saturday (07 March).

• The NEBE Chairperson, Melatwork Hailu, confirmed at a press briefing that all logistical and administrative preparations have been finalised and that registration commenced as scheduled through both digital and manual systems across all polling stations nationwide.
• She confirmed that voter registration commenced as scheduled on Saturday (07 March) and will run for one month until approximately 04 April, with registration being conducted simultaneously through two channels: digitally via the Mirchaye (My Election) mobile application and manually via NEBE-distributed tablets at polling stations for in-person registration.
• The 7th General Election is scheduled for 01 June, during which eligible Ethiopian citizens will elect members of the House of Peoples’ Representatives and members of various Regional Councils.
• A total of 47 political parties have registered 10,934 candidates to compete in the 7th General Election as of the press briefing date, and of these, 2,198 candidates are contesting seats in the House of Peoples’ Representatives, 8,736 candidates are running for positions in Regional Councils, and in addition, 73 independent candidates have registered, comprising 69 men and four women.
