As per reports, a crude oil spill occurred on a road near an oil refinery in the Onsan National Industrial Complex in Onsan-eup, Ulju-gun, Ulsan; at around 1710 hours (local time) on Saturday (07 March).

• Approximately 200 litres of crude oil spilled onto the road and eventually flowed into a nearby river.
• The accident is believed to have occurred when a pipeline connected to a crude oil tank at a nearby factory broke for unknown reasons.
• Fire authorities and factory officials shut off the pipeline valve following the accident to prevent further leakage and deployed absorbent pads and vacuum pumps to recover the crude oil.
• The emergency containment operations continued for over three hours.
• The Ulsan Coast Guard sealed the discharge outlet from the contaminated river to the sea and installed oil fences in the nearby waters to prevent the crude oil from flowing into the ocean.
