Religious processions scheduled in Savona for Patronal Feast from 15 March

As per reports, the city of Savona and the Diocese of Savona Noli are preparing to commemorate the 490th anniversary of the apparition of Our Lady of Mercy on 18 March, marking the patronal feast first associated with events dated 18 March 1536. A series of religious events and public processions are scheduled from 15 March leading up to and including the main celebration.

• On 18 March, the traditional votive procession is scheduled to depart at 0700 hours local time (0600 hours UTC) from the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption in Savona’s historic centre. The procession is expected to be opened by the crucifix of the Confraternity of the Blessed Sacrament of Stella and led by Don Giuseppe Militello, diocesan delegate for the confraternities.
• In preparation for the feast, a triduum is scheduled from 15 March to 17 March, including the recitation of the rosary at 1630 hours local time (1530 hours UTC), vespers at 1700 hours local time (1600 hours UTC), followed by Mass.
• On 17 March, a torchlight procession is scheduled to depart at 2000 hours local time (1900 hours UTC) from the Church of San Bernardo and proceed toward Santuario Square. At 2100 hours local time (2000 hours UTC), a prayer vigil is scheduled in the basilica, led by Catholic Action and the Diocesan Youth Ministry Service.
