As per reports, Authorities in the Lesotho have implemented road closures following three consecutive weeks of heavy rainfall between 5 February 2026 and 26 February 2026, which caused extensive infrastructure damage across the Highlands and Southern regions. According to the Roads Directorate, the sustained downpours led to severe soil saturation, ground cracking, and the collapse of culverts and drainage structures (drifts), rendering several gravel routes unsafe.

As per reports, road closures and movement restrictions were officially implemented on 27 February 2026 after engineering assessments confirmed that multiple corridors had become hazardous or impassable. The following routes are currently closed or severely restricted:

• Thaba-Tseka – Qacha’s Nek Road
• haba-Tseka – Mokhotlong Road
• Setanteng access routes (Mohale’s Hoek District)
• Selected gravel roads in Quthing District
• Rural access roads in Butha-Buthe District
